BASTROP, LA. (KTHV) - A Louisiana judge set a trial date on the morning of Tuesday, April 3, for two Arkansans who allegedly slit a dog's throat and posted it to the social media app Snapchat.
Steven Sadler and Boots Stanley will appear in court on Sept. 24.
Sadler is accused of killing the dog while Stanley is accused of making the video. Both men are from Hamburg, Arkansas.
Sadler is represented by Bobby Underwood; Stanley is represented by Lewis Ungleby and Scott McElroy. The state of Louisiana is being represented by Assistant District Attorney John Spires.
Their lawyers argue the men did nothing wrong, citing a local ordinance that declares pit bulls dangerous as well as a state law that says anyone may kill a dangerous animal.
The Bastrop Police Department of Louisiana were made aware of the posts on August 24, 2016 and issued a warrant for the men's arrest.
The two Arkansans last appeared in court on Oct. 31. Their original hearing, scheduled for Feb. 27, was postponed due to scheduling conflicts.
Sadler has been charged with four counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, one of conspiracy to commit the crime. Stanley is charged with conspiracy.
