Which workout is for you? Finding a routine that works for you, your schedule

With the holidays almost here, the weight gain for some of us is not far behind. Yesterday, we talked about the four rules of getting active.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - With the holidays almost here, the weight gain for some of us is not far behind. Yesterday, we talked about the four rules of getting active. Now, we're looking at the types of workouts available, from the high impact to no impact.

You can go fast, or you can take it slow. Whatever your speed, your best bet to get fit is to just go for it. Pick a workout, look past the fear and get moving.

At Little Rock Athletic Club, we stepped into a high-impact class called 'Quickshots.' Lee Ann Jolly created this class because "a lot of members, especially parents, want short workouts that are short and effective. An hour was too long," she said. "It's constant movement for the whole 30 minutes."

It's quick, but far from impersonal.

"It's our goal," said trainer Burke Jolly. "You're going to hear your name five to six times, with positive affirmation, I'm proud of you. You're doing a great job."

If you are looking for something less intense, Pure Barre is another option.

"It was the first workout that I've ever done that I did not get bored with," said Barre's Whitney White. This class is a bit longer, 45 to 50 minutes, designed for all skill levels.

"If you need a modification," she said, "if you need to take a break, go to a lower level, in a plank, come down to your knees."

This workout is designed to work on your mind as much as your muscle.

"One of the biggest things we hear our clients say," White said, "is it's an hour of therapy. They come in here and shut the rest of the world out. We want them to feel built up so when they walk out of those doors they feel better than when they walked in."

Tomorrow, we'll wrap up our series with how to avoid injuries at the gym, or how to bounce back after being hurt.
