BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - The Benton Police Department has started a business checklist.
If you're on the list, officers will keep an eye out for your business during the day and after hours.
Owner of Vibrant Occasions Catering and Dinners Ready Express, Serge Krikorien, said being on the list is good for his whole staff and gives them a sense of security.
“We have employees that come in really early in the morning, one or two o’clock in the morning and we feel safe because we do see a police officer driving through the parking lot and checking on them,” he said.
Physical therapists at Exceptional Physical Therapy, Marla Murphy, said the partnership keeps them informed.
“A business in this area had been broken into three times and we didn't even know so now that we know it's happened we keep an eye out for that business because it's in direct sight of where we are,” she said.
She said it also allows them to help other businesses in their area.
“It's good for us to have each other's back and if we see something weird going on at another business we can report it or keep a closer eye on what's going on,” she said.
The Benton Police Department will drive by your business, do walkthroughs and they'll even check business doors after hours to make sure they're locked.
Sgt. Jackson said the safety checks bond the community and keeps it safe.
“If we notice something during the middle of the night or whenever we can contact them directly and have them come out or make note of what we saw. We want to build that security, that way you know that you're being taken care of,” Sgt. Jackson said.
Being on the checklist also helps the department keep up to date with contact information for your business.
