A fire at the Harps in Clarksville early this morning left substantial damage to the building.
"I was informed that waste management ... saw that it was on fire and called," says Lana Wommack, the bakery deli manager at Harps Grocery in Clarksville.
Wommack says she was shocked and confused about the condition of the store. "Once I finally got the first phone call, it was about 4 a.m. or so."
According to the Clarksville Fire Department, the team responded just after 2:30 a.m.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control just after 3:00 a.m. They told 5NEWS it was completely put out by 5:00 a.m. and no employees or visitors were at the store during the fire.
Arkansas Restoration Services and the Commerce Construction Company have been on the grounds since early this morning to assess damages and begin repairs.
Workers tell 5NEWS there is considerable smoke and water damage inside from the water used to put out the fire.
"A lot of products will have to get wasted. Most of the damage is to the ceiling and the walls, and our vent hood in the deli is no good anymore," adds Wommack.
The power is down for most of the store with only five cash registers working.
Sarah Thacker with Harps says the company is thankful for the Clarksville Fire Department and emergency services. She says it could be a few weeks before the store is completely up and running again.
