RAMSEUR, N.C.-- A Randolph Schools employee caused a lockdown at an elementary school after bringing a firearm on campus.

The incident happened around 10:10 Friday morning, according to a school spokesperson. The employee went into the cafeteria at Ramseur Elementary School with a handgun in a case. After some school staff members saw the person, they immediately reported the incident to the school administration.

Law enforcement was then called and they placed the school on lockdown.

According to school officials, they don't believe the employee intended to use the firearm and it was never seen out of its case. Students were not near the employee while the person was in possession of the encased firearm.

The employee, identified as Serena L. Williams was arrested and charged. Deputies say she admitted to having the gun on school property.

The lockdown was lifted at 11:05 a.m.
