One person is dead and a Pulaski County sheriff's deputy is recovering after a house fire that happened early this afternoon on Peters Road just north of Jacksonville.
Investigators said an elderly man lived in the home but was unfortunately unable to get out, despite the efforts of a deputy who tried rescuing him from the flames.
"The deputy arrived pretty quickly on scene and was attempting to make a rescue and received smoke inhalation and was transported to a local hospital,” Lt. Cody Burks said. “He is currently in good condition at the hospital."
Investigators are still trying to figure out what ignited the blaze.
