Dean Denton has landed the role of a lifetime with some of the biggest stars in Hollywood.
Denton is set to play a part in the upcoming Netflix film, The Highwaymen. It’s a film based on the true story of the former Texas Rangers tasked with tracking and killing infamous criminals Bonnie and Clyde.
In the film, he had the chance to work with stars like Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson; two of the biggest names in the film industry.
“I play Bob Alcorn who is one of the six lawmen who track down Bonnie and Clyde,” Denton said. “He’s one of the six guys that was there when they were shot at the end.”
Denton has been acting since he was 18, but his career started to really take off a few years ago when he began sending directors audition tapes filmed from an unlikely place; his garage.
“I’ve got a backdrop that I hang on the garage door along with three lights and my camera,” he said.
He said the industry has changed and made it easier than ever to audition for roles.
“When I got back into this eight or nine years ago, I drove 10,000 miles for auditions, but now I can do this in my garage,” he said. “Most guys work on cars in their garage and while I don’t know anything about cars, I can make a good audition sometimes.”
Denton has landed other roles in movies like God’s Not Dead and the Brian Banks movie, but nothing like this most recent project.
“The Highwaymen is the biggest thing I’ve ever done,” he said.
While his career is taking off, he said it has taken a life of perseverance and faith; a decade’s long journey to stardom that began in the 80s.
“I’ve been told ‘no’ over 1,100 times by casting directors and producers but I kept on going and I didn’t take no for an answer,” he said.
He said that all it takes is a single ‘yes’ to change your entire career. He hopes this will be the launch pad for more big opportunities.
“It’s all because of God; He has really blessed me,” said Denton.
The Highwaymen releases on Netflix Friday, March 29.
