HOUMA, La. (KTHV) - A famous riverboat approaching its 90th birthday may soon be back on the waters like the Mississippi and Arkansas rivers.

The Delta Queen is currently docked in Houma, Louisiana under restoration it hopes it will set sail once more. It's been docked in Houma since 2015 after spending time as a floating hotel in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In 2008, the boat lost its federal exemption that allowed the wooden vessel to sail.

Senators in both Louisiana and Missouri have been working to get the exemption put back in place. For decades, The Delta Queen has been immortalized in poems and songs.

If the exemption is restored, the 285-foot vessel is expected to move to Missouri where the ship's owners have a restaurant and gift shop.
