Little Rock mayor honors 'hidden figure' by naming March 28 as Raye Montague Day

Raye Montague is known as Arkansas’ very own ‘hidden figure.’

On Tuesday during the City Board of Directors meeting, Mayor Frank Scott Jr. will declare March 28 as Raye Montague Day, who is otherwise known as Arkansas’ very own ‘hidden figure.’

Montague retired from the Navy in 1990 after moving her way up from clerk-typist to digital systems operator.

It was in the Navy where she was given the task to draft a ship with an unlimited budget and staff. It took her less than 19 hours by using a computer program she designed herself.

Following her retirement, she returned to Little Rock and proceeded to inspire those from all walks of life to chase their dreams. With March being Women’s History Month and Montague being a trailblazing woman in the STEM field, March 28 seems to be the perfect day to celebrate a larger-than-life woman.

Little Rock Water Reclamation Authority is also highlighting a handful of women who work at the utility to further celebrate the importance of women in the STEM field.
