Extremely rare bird spotted in a Tennessee lake

The Ancient Murrelet feeds mostly in offshore water over the North Pacific.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A rare bird species that lives in the North Pacific Ocean was spotted at Chickamauga Lake over the weekend.

The Ancient Murrelet feeds mostly in offshore water over the North Pacific, out of sight of land. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology said the best way to see these birds is to take a sailing trip during the non-breeding season.

Rarely, the bird is spotted on the Alaskan or Russian shore.

Nate Nelson sent this picture to WBIR and there have been multiple confirmed spottings of the bird since Friday.
