LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — This week we're in the heart of Little Rock on Markham at Jimmy's Serious Sandwiches where owner Mark Brooks and his wife, assistant manager Marilyn Gleason, have teamed up to deliver one of the best lunch spots in mid-town.
"Jimmy’s Serious Sandwiches has been here about 40 years," Brooks said. "I started here about 15-20 years ago and ended up buying it.”
The team starts early in the morning, usually between 6:30 to 7 a.m. It takes them about 3-4 hours to get ready for lunch but Mark said they're always ready to go at 11.
Brooks and Gleason joined up a couple of years ago, but while it's still a new partnership, they think they make a pretty good team.
As far as the menu goes there is a clear favorite and has been for years.
"The garden is number one. We’ve been selling it for 40 years and it’s been number one for 40 years, well before it was popular to be healthy. I don’t know if anyone would even admit they were a vegetarian," Gleason said.
She added that there's something for everybody on the menu, including a new BLT they started serving just a few months ago that is very popular right now.
The house dressing is a big reason customers keep coming back with secret ingredients.
"Also, we use Applewood smoked bacon on our club and our BLT as well as our Club Mex that just sets it off,” she said.
If someone is in the mood for dessert, Jimmy's features big cookies and very popular lemon squares.
