LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Summertime in Arkansas means BBQ and festivals, which is the perfect time to catch these two Little Rock legends— Haygood BBQ and Aretha's Beverages.
"It started in 2010 with a backyard BBQ. My family came up with the idea that you need to sell this. It’s good enough to sell. Me and my wife got plans together and that’s where Haygood BBQ was born," explained Haygood BBQ owner Ron Haygood.
Previously, Ron worked at AFCO Steel for 28 years. and only did BBQ part-time.
"God helped me step out on faith and we’ve been doing it ever since," he added.
The menu consists of chopped pork, brisket, turkey legs, chicken wings, french fries, and more. Haygood also has their very own sauce.
Ron also says the process of cooking the ribs is a special one.
"Low and slow! Smoke them for about 4 or 5 hours. Get them nice and tender," he explained.
If you're searching for the perfect drink to wash down your meal, look no further than Aretha's Beverages owned and operated by Jacinda Jones.
"It’s going to be a beautiful celebration on Saturday for Juneteenth," Jones said. "We’ll have our strawberry lemonade which is our Juneteenth beverage because of the color red. It symbolizes a few things because of Juneteenth. We’ll have a sweet tea and classic lemonade."
Both businesses will be at Little Rock's Juneteenth in Da Rock celebration on Saturday, June 15.
