LIST | 5 things to know for Black Friday in Central Arkansas

We found out five things you need to know before you head out for Black Friday shopping.

As people are getting their turkeys ready some are also getting their wallets ready for one of the biggest shopping days of the year. We found out five things you need to know before you head out for Black Friday shopping.

"Historically the deals are worth it," said Ron Duggins, Marketing and Management Assistant Professor with the University of Central Arkansas.

1. Do your homework. You won’t know if what you’re getting is a good deal unless you compare prices.

“If you prepared and know last week what prices were, you’ll be better prepared," said Duggins.

2. Make a solid plan. Make a budget and stick to that budget. Once you know what you want, commit to the hustle and bustle that comes with Black Friday.

“Some of the real deep slashed prices, like on electronics, you almost always have to be in the store for those and they’re worth it price wise, but are they worth it according to your hassle,” said Duggins.

A lot of deals will continue after Black Friday, but the closer to Christmas we get, the less savings you'll likely find.

3. Think outside the box with gifts. Many spas and services also offer deals.

“Maybe someone wants a massage or maybe someone wants a facial. Those are becoming more popular as gifts today," said Duggins.

For those who want to avoid the hustle and bustle of Black Friday, online shopping may be your best bet.

“This year it’s estimated about 60 percent of all holiday sales will be done online,” said Duggins.

4. You can already find many online deals, with the largest online savings day coming Cyber Monday.

“Read through the terms and conditions, understand the refund policy, understand the privacy policy," said Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge.

5. Be cautious of online scammers.

“Look for that lock button in the browser, look for ‘https’ to make sure it’s a secure website," said Rutledge.

Black Friday shopping can be fun, but if you're not careful and prepared, it could be more trouble than its worth.
