Central Arkansas consignment and thrift store workers seeing increase in shoppers ahead of holidays

As the holidays draw closer consignment and thrift stores in Central Arkansas are saying that they have been seeing an increase in sales.

ARKANSAS, USA — While some people have found themselves scrolling to find Cyber Monday deals online, others have decided that they're heading to resale shops.

Various consignment and thrift store workers in Central Arkansas have explained that they have been seeing an increase in sales.

Between sorting clothes and helping customers, Children's Orchard owner, Jade Moore expressed that she is constantly busy.

"Resale is on the rise. That's what we've been telling ourselves. That's what we've been saying. It is definitely something that we've seen an influx in,"  Moore added.

Moore also said that this year, there's been a big difference in foot traffic.

"In 2022, we've seen a 17% increase in our resale just for one of our stores in particular," she said.

Moore also owns both Clothes Mentor and Plato's Closet in Little Rock and North Little Rock and explained how overall she's seen more people come in to sell their items too.

"The pandemic just being at home, I feel like kept people in their home. But it also lets them see kind of what they have. And they're tired of it. But also inflation," she said.

She mentioned how October was a big month at Children's Orchard.

"We were so busy, we had to press pause on our buy counter every single day, I feel like for the month of October because so many people were bringing excellent stuff in," Moore said.

At Goodwill, Trent Wunstel said they have had more shoppers, but fewer donations— He also explained that inflation could be a reason why.

"People have less overall to give," Wunstel said.

Customers have continued loading up their carts.

"We've seen about a 12% increase in sales, which usually corresponds with customer traffic," he said.

He also explained that he expects the trend to continue throughout the new year.

"We are nonprofit, what we do goes to serve our mission, our mission services. I think all of us, we can gather together this holiday season and just be top of mind to give more and give back to the community in which we serve," he said.

November 29 marks the day of  "Giving Tuesday" where people are asked to give to local non-profits, so they can continue to serve our communities.
