Arkansas State Police names new commander for Troop C

Arkansas State Police Lt. John Carter is being promoted to captain and will take over as commander of Troop C in Jonesboro.

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas State Police Lt. John Carter is being promoted to captain and will take over as commander of Troop C in Jonesboro.

State Police Col. Bill Bryant said Thursday that the 52-year-old Carter replaces recently retired Capt. Jim Howington and takes over as commander immediately.

Troop C covers Clay, Craighead, Greene, Mississippi, Poinsett and Randolph counties in northeast Arkansas.

Carter is a 25-year veteran of the state police and most recently was assistant troop commander of Troop B in Newport.
