FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - The University of Arkansas says NASA has awarded one of its affiliates $245,000 in grants to design two circuits that could be used on Venus.
Ozark Integrated Circuits is affiliated with the university and designs semiconductors at the Arkansas Research and Technology Park. The school said Tuesday that Ozark IC will use the two grants to design complicated integrated circuits that can operate on Venus, where the temperature reaches 932 degrees.
NASA has proposed construction of the Venus Landsailing Rover. Matt Francis, the president of Ozark IC, says the two silicon-carbide-based circuits could be incorporated into its overall design.
The first NASA award involves the development of a reliable ultraviolet imager. The second would help provide real-time programmability for a proposed mobile lander.
