HARRISBURG, Ark. — The Harrisburg School District was placed on lockdown for several hours after the school district received a report Tuesday morning that a student tried to sell a gun on Snapchat to another student.
The district sent its School Resource Officer to the school to search the student for a weapon.
Prior to being searched, the student fled the school campus leading law enforcement to search and put the campuses on lockdown.
Poinsett County Sheriff Kevin Molder said the juvenile suspect is now in custody and the gun was behind the school. No one is allowed in or out of the building at this time.
Police say that the school buildings are secure and safe and the school is no longer on lockdown.
Harrisburg schools are located 20 miles south of Jonesboro, Ark.
