Arkansas woman shocked after witnessing mass shooting at Fordyce grocery store

A Fordyce woman described the shock she experienced after a mass shooting took place while she was shopping for dinner with her family at the Mad Butcher.

FORDYCE, Ark. — A Fordyce woman described the shock she experienced after a mass shooting took place while she was shopping for dinner with her family at an Arkansas grocery store.

"It was just a regular day, and then it all happened so fast," the woman said about the mass shooting at Mad Butcher on Friday.

The woman said that she arrived to the Mad Butcher grocery store with her mom on Friday. As she went down an aisle to get supplies for dinner, that's when she said she heard a noise — she turned around and saw others ducking on the ground.

From that point, she recalled seeing shots coming through the store's window. When that happened, she grabbed her brother who was inside of a shopping cart, and began to run.

The woman said that she was able to meet up with her mom, who briefed her on the fact that there was a mass shooter in the store. She and her family were able find a door to a bathroom that they were attempting to hide in, but the door was locked.

They continued to run and found another door where there were two workers inside of the store's freezer section. The woman and her mother asked if the family could come inside to hide.

Once inside the freezer, the woman and her family told the workers about the situation that was happening on the other side of the door.

The group reinforced the door from the inside, and said that they didn't have phone service while in the freezer, so they weren't able to call anyone.

During the traffic mass shooting, three people were killed and eight other civilians were wounded when the shooter opened fire at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce around 11:30 a.m. on Friday.

Additionally, two law enforcement officers were injured in the incident and are expected to recover.

Our reporters went to the scene and once there, saw a slew of bullet holes in the grocery store's window. One person even said they hid in a freezer to protect themselves.

Currently, we have no information on the names of the victims or the suspects. We are working to learn more information on the incident.
