CAMDEN, Ark. — The Camden Police Department is investigating an incident that left one person dead on Wednesday morning.
According to reports, at around 12:50 a.m., officers were called to Spring Street with reports of a shooting. Once officers arrived they found a 36-year-old man unresponsive and on the ground. They also encountered a 25-year-old male who was walking toward officers with his hands in the air.
The 25-year-old told officers that his firearm was on the trunk of his vehicle, and claimed self-defense by saying that the 36-year-old man had aggressively approached him with a hammer and prybar.
The 36-year-old man was taken to the Ouachita County Medical Center after sustaining a gunshot wound to the chest where he was later pronounced deceased.
The 25-year-old was taken into custody and transported to the Camden Police Department. Police say he was compliant during the investigation and had his first court appearance on July 24.
