Gunman in Arkansas grocery store granted additional attempted capital murder charge

The suspected gunman involved in the mass shooting in Fordyce will face more charges than initially thought, according to formal documents filed Monday.

EL DORADO, Ark. — The suspected gunman in the mass shooting at an Arkansas grocery store was granted an additional attempted capital murder charge, as the prosecuting attorney filed formal charges to the Dallas County Circuit Court on Monday.

44-year-old Travis Posey, who is currently being held at the Quachita County Jail without bond, has been charged with four counts of capital murder and 11 counts of attempted capital murder for the deadly shooting at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce on June 21.

Days after the tragedy, Posey pleaded not guilty to his charges and could face up to life in prison or the death penalty if convicted. He will be offered two public defenders due to charges of capital murder involving the death penalty.

Due to a safety risk to the community, Posey will remain at the Quachita County Jail with any future court appearances held in Dallas County.

Court records don't show a schedule yet, but the case has been assigned to Judge Spencer Singleton, who is based in El Dorado.
