Hot Springs woman injures 5 people, including 1-year-old child, after drunk driving crash

On Monday, May 13, at 5:28 p.m., officers responded to Higdon Ferry in reference to an injury involving several pedestrians.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — On Monday, May 13, at 5:28 p.m., Hot Springs police officers responded to Higdon Ferry in reference to a car crash involving several pedestrians. 

Upon arrival, officers located five injured people, including a 1-year-old child. 

Contact was made with the driver of the car, 72-year-old Louise Young of Hot Springs. Young advised that she was pulling into a parking space when she pressed the gas pedal, instead of the brakes and struck the pedestrians.

Young showed signs of being intoxicated and admitted to drinking. Officers gave Young field sobriety tests, which she failed. A blood draw was completed on Young and she was charged with one count of DWI 1st. 

Additional charges of Battery are pending the blood results.

Two of the victims, 60-year-old Ruth Harris and one juvenile male, were airlifted to Little Rock for further treatment. 

Harris is listed in critical condition and the juvenile is listed in serious condition.
