WHITE COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — The White County Sherriff's Office is investigating a deadly shooting incident that happened on Friday.
According to reports, just after 9:00 p.m. on November 29, officials received a shots fired call from a home on County Line Road near Rosebud (about 50 miles from Little Rock).
A woman had allegedly informed them that her husband, Gary Knight, had been shot twice. He was then transported to a hospital in Searcy where he later died due to his injuries.
Shortly after the initial call was received, the dispatch center received a call from James Trenton Barley (Knight's neighbor), who reportedly stated that he had been involved in the shooting.
Once deputies made contact with Mr. Barley, a search and seizure warrant was issued for his home. The search revealed several items related to the shooting including firearms and ballistics.
Barley was then arrested and taken to the White County Detention Center where he is being charged with first-degree murder.
Knight's body has been taken to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine the exact cause of death.
The investigation into this incident remains ongoing and we will update with more information as soon as it becomes available.
