51-year-old man shot by Cabot officers, police say

One man was injured after being shot by police and is being charged with multiple offenses by the Cabot Police Department.

CABOT, Ark. — The Cabot Police Department (CPD) confirmed that an officers shot a man overnight on Shady Lane.

According to reports, police were called to Cabot Emergency Hospital after receiving a call that a man was involved in an altercation there. 

Police say 51-year-old Douglas Nutter failed to comply with officers’ commands to stop. He drove to a residence on Shady Lane in Lonoke County, where he again failed to comply with orders to stop.

Officers fired their guns, striking Nutter in the hand. He was taken into custody and transported to a hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries to his right hand.

It is not clear if Nutter shot at police or had any weapon at this time.

Nutter was later released from the hospital and taken to the Cabot Police Department, where he will be charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, felony fleeing, and reckless driving.

There is currently no additional information regarding the incident. but Arkansas State Police have taken over the investigation.
