Suspect ‘with a weapon’ dies after being shot by Little Rock police

An investigation is now underway after a shooting incident involving the Little Rock Police Department left one person dead.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Little Rock Police Department is investigating an incident after an officer fatally shot someone on the afternoon of Monday, Dec. 11.

According to reports, just after 3:00 p.m., officers were responding to a "disturbance with a weapon" at a Days Inn motel along I-30 that is next to the Arkansas State Police headquarters.

Once they arrived, police say they saw a person "with a weapon" and quickly ordered them to drop it. Officers then allegedly fired shots which hit the suspect.

Police claim that they gave multiple verbal commands for the suspect to surrender but that the person reached into his waistband and pulled out what they determined to be a handgun.

The suspect was taken to the hospital where they died due to the injuries sustained.

A homicide detective explained that multiple shots were fired, starting in a hotel room and stretching across the parking lot to the building next door.

No information has been released on the suspect's name of any officers that were involved.

LRPD did confirm that there were two officers that fired shots during the incident, and that both officers are now on administrative leave.

We asked Little Rock police if surveillance video is available showing that the suspect had a handgun, to which the department shared that they're currently inspecting all pieces of evidence during their investigation.

Police are expected to release more information about the incident in the coming days.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing and we will update with more information as soon as it becomes available.
