Arkansas man who beat officer with flagpole on Jan. 6 moves to halfway house

Peter Stager, who pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer during the Jan. 6 riot, is expected to be released in Oct. 2024.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A Conway man who was sentenced for assaulting a police officer during the U.S. Capitol riot on Jan. 6, has moved to a halfway home in Texas and is expected to be released in Oct. 2024.

Peter Stager, who pleaded guilty to attacking the officer with a flagpole, began serving his 52-month sentence in July 2023. He was given a credit of 31 months served while he was in a Washington D.C. jail.

After serving time in different federal prisons, Stager was then moved to a halfway house in Dallas County, Texas with an expected release date of Oct. 21, 2024, according to the Bureau of Prisons website.

Once Stager is released from custody, he will also have three years of supervised released and has been ordered to pay $2,000 in fines.

During his actions on Jan. 6, Stager hit the Metropolitan Police Department officer at least three times with his flagpole. Over 100 police officers were injured during the riot led by supporters of Donald Trump, according to the Associated Press.

As many as 749 people have been sentenced for their actions on Jan. 6 with 467 receiving prison time and 154 others serving home detention.
