NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a mother and her five-year-old daughter were shot outside of a North Little Rock apartment complex.
The sheriff’s office said it happened around 6:30 a.m. on Friday at the Chapel Ridge of North Little Rock apartments at 5900 McCain Park Place.
The residence is called Fairfax Crossings Apartments, it was renamed a few months ago.
The woman was warming up her car, which she does every morning when a suspect approached her and her four children wearing a ski mask. The subject shot her and the five-year-old girl and took off. The other children, a nine-year-old and 10-year-old twins were able to get away.
The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office said the mother, 30-year-old April Harris has died from her injuries.
Harris's neighbor, Jessica Davis said it's shocking this happened because Harris keeps to herself.
"I didn’t see anything this morning but she stays up top from me and she comes out every morning at 5 o’clock to warm her car up. Her and her kids usually leave the complex by 6 o’clock, she gets in her car and she leaves,” she said.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s office said this is the second homicide at this complex in the last four months. Davis said she feels the crime will continue if the complex doesn’t step up security.
“They need to put cameras and lights up out here and they also need sheriffs out here and do way better than what they're doing,” said Davis.
The suspect is considered armed and dangerous. We're continuing to get updates and will provide them once they are available.
