Victims in shooting near McCain Mall in North Little Rock now identified

The North Little Rock Police Department has now identified the two 17-year-olds who were shot and killed near McCain Blvd on Friday night.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The North Little Rock Police Department investigated a shooting that happened on Friday night in the 3900 block of McCain Blvd. 

According to reports, one victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the second was taken to a local hospital where he later died. 

The North Little Rock Police Department identified the two 17-year-old victims as Marcus Blue and Alex Berry.

Blue was a member of the LISA Academy basketball team.

His coach, Chris Horton, expressed that Blue's passing was a huge loss.

"He's yes sir, no sir, yes ma'am, no ma'am, I mean he's just a model kid," Horton said. "Like, I wish I had 50 of kids just like Marcus."

Horton explained that they've already had conversations with the team and that those conversations haven't been easy. 

He added that the players are close, especially with Blue.

"These guys have known each other since fifth, sixth grade, they've grown up together, been a class together, played ball together pretty much their whole lives," Horton said. "It was a punch in the stomach for a lot of us."
