Police: Shooting in Pine Bluff kills one man, suspect in custody

PINE BLUFF, Ark. — One man is dead in Pine Bluff after a shooting near the 1100 block of East 34th Avenue Saturday.

Authorities said they responded to the shooting just after 11 a.m. and found 29-year-old Otis Daniels with gunshot wounds near 34th and Missouri.

He was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

Officers learned that the shooting happened near the front door of a residence, and they took 44-year-old John Cater into custody "without incident."

According to Pine Bluff police, witnesses and Carter said that Daniels came into the residence and "began hitting Carter in the face for unknown reasons."

That's when authorities said Carter got up off the porch, went inside and "retrieved a revolver" before shooting Daniels multiple times.

Carter was arrested and booked into the Jefferson County Jail for capital murder.
