Man jumps out of passenger seat during high-speed chase in Arkansas, 2 others arrested

The chase reached 60 mph, at which point the front passenger allegedly jumped out of the moving vehicle and rolled "a number of yards."

SEBASTIAN COUNTY, Ark. — Two people have been arrested after a chase that involved Sebastian County deputies, Barling police, and Arkansas State Police, on Thursday, March 21.

According to the Sebastian County Sheriff's Office (SCSO), a deputy attempted to pull over a speeding car at Bugscuffle Road and State Highway 255 in Lavaca when it began accelerating, "fleeing from the deputy."

The chase reached 60 mph through Barling, where the front passenger allegedly jumped out of the moving vehicle and rolled "a number of yards and sustained significant road rash," SCSO said in a post on their Facebook page.

Units from ASP and the Barling Police Department assisted in the chase as it continued into Fort Smith, where the car "veered into the Sam's parking lot which point Barling police officers used a tactical vehicle intervention technique to bring the vehicle to a sudden stop," SCSO said.

The driver then tried to run away on foot but was reportedly quickly arrested by officers. He was charged with felony fleeing in a vehicle, battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The passenger who jumped out of the vehicle hasn't been charged with anything, according to SCSO. According to the release, he told police he was just "catching a ride into town." He was bandaged by EMS at the scene and brought to a nearby hospital to treat his road rash, deputies said.

There was a third person in the car, a woman who was in the back seat. She reportedly told police that she'd slept through the chase. She was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, according to SCSO.
