TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - A Texarkana woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the stabbing death of her boyfriend.
Simone Miller cried and apologized to the family of 26-year-old Lane Denney during her plea hearing Wednesday before Circuit Judge Joe Griffin. Prosecutors tell the Texarkana Gazettethat Denney's family agreed to the plea deal with the condition that Miller admit her guilt.
Miller, who is 20, told family members that she didn't intend to kill Denney. Authorities say Denney suffered a 5-inch stab wound to his abdomen that damaged an aortic valve, causing him to bleed to death internally.
The stabbing happened last summer at a Texarkana apartment complex.
