Back to School Bash: Martin Luther King Commission hosts school supply distribution

More than 1,000 packages of school supplies will be handed out to students in several cities around the state on Wednesday.

For the fourth year in a row, the Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission is sponsoring the 2020 Back to School Bash school supply distribution on Wednesday, August 5.

“During these unprecedented times there is a need everywhere," MLK Commission Executive Director DuShun Scarbrough said. 

"Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. placed great emphasis on education and the opportunities that come as a result of youth taking advantage of education. This is our way of paying it forward and promoting education throughout the state."

School supplies will be handed out at these locations from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday:

  • Conway

  • Forrest City
    Central Elem School, 801 Deadrick Rd, Forrest City, AR  72335
  • Helena/West Helena
    KIPP Delta College Preparatory School, 514 Missouri, Helena, AR 72342
  • Hensley/Woodson
    Hensley/Woodson Community Center, at 5204 W Hensley Rd, Hensley, AR 72065
  • Little Rock 
    Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, 906 S Broadway, Little Rock, AR 72201
  • Pine Bluff
    Saracen Landing, 200 Lake Saracen Drive, Pine Bluff, AR 71601
  • Prattsville

Each distribution location will enforce social distancing guidelines from the CDC and the Arkansas Department of Health.

The MLK Commission is a division of the Arkansas Department of Education.
