LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Tough conversations are expected to happen for the Little Rock School District, and the administration wants parents to be a part of them.
With news of schools closing and consolidating, families will now soon get their chance to voice their concerns and learn more about the plans.
"I would approach this as I am coming in to help shape the way that my child's educational experience is going to be," said Vicki Hatter, a board member for LRSD.
The district is proposing closing Brady Elementary and consolidating Carver Elementary into Washington Elementary.
"The concern for me was I felt there was a lack of transparency and the importance of communication," said Andrea Lewis, Director for the City of Little Rock.
Just two weeks ago, Director Lewis and others showed up to the LRSD board meeting and shared frustrations that these decisions were being made with little input from the community.
Now, parents will have that opportunity.
At 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Centre at University Park parents and staff can attend a meeting to share their thoughts on the future of these schools to district leaders, including Superintendent Jermall Wright.
Food and childcare will be provided at the meeting to those who need it. The meeting was originally scheduled to be at the Willie Hinton Resource Center, but the heat went out at the building so the location was moved.
"What the parents will hear is the overview and being able to be a part of shaping where their child will go to school," said Hatter.
At their next agenda meeting, the school board is expected to vote on whether or not to consolidate and close these schools.
