Spring enrollment at Arkansas Tech University increases for first time since 2019

According to school officials, spring enrollment at Arkansas Tech University is on the rise for the first time in five years.

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — For the first time in five years, spring enrollment at Arkansas Tech University is on the rise according to officials.

8,308 students have enrolled for spring 2024, compared to last year, when the university had 8,210 students.

This 1.2% increase from spring 2023 marked the first spring-to-spring enrollment increase at ATU since 2019.

Additionally, student semester credit hours (SSCH) and international student headcount enrollment have also gone up this semester. 

SSCH rose to 83,969 in spring 2024 compared to 83,318 in spring 2023, while international student enrollment rose to 218 in spring 2024 compared to 206 in spring 2023.

"The retention programs that our colleges and departments have implemented are helping more Arkansas Tech students persist in their studies and continue on the path to graduation," said Dr. Russell Jones, ATU interim president. "This is a tribute to our faculty, our staff, and their dedication to our students. We are turning a corner in our enrollment. As we continue to emphasize experiential learning opportunities such as study abroad and implement our 'No Strings Attached' approach to financial aid, we will attract more students who want an affordable learning environment where they feel supported and valued as individuals while attending a residential campus with the full college experience.”

ATU departments that showed significant SSCH increases among non-concurrent, undergraduate students from spring 2023 to spring 2024 included:

  • Biological sciences
  • Business
  • History and Political Science
  • Military science
  • Music
  • Nursing
  • Professional and Community Education

ATU graduate programs that displayed SSCH increases from spring 2023 to spring 2024 included:

  • Biological sciences
  • Business
  • Engineering and Computing Sciences
  • History and Political Science
  • Nursing
  • Professional and Community Education
