Arkansas sees nearly 11,000 new coronavirus cases since beginning of Phase Two

LITTLE ROCK, Ark — Since the beginning of Phase Two, Arkansas has seen a total of 10,897 new coronavirus cases.

In a press conference on June 25, Gov. Hutchinson said there is currently a pause on reopenings in Arkansas.The statement comes after a reference to the governor of Texas "rolling back" on reopenings and some elective surgeries. 

Hutchinson has also issued a new guidance on face masks in the state, but has yet to make it a requirement to wear them in public settings.

The ADH was able to confirm that there is now a total of 325 hospitalizations.

2:45 p.m.

There is a confirmed 605 new COVID-19 cases since yesterday, bringing the total to 23,814 throughout the state since March 11, when the first case in Arkansas was reported.

Saturday, July 4

2 p.m.

The Arkansas Department of Health confirms 587 new coronavirus cases in the state, bringing the total to 23, 209. There have been 5 more deaths within 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 286.

Gov. Hutchinson announced he signed an executive order, allowing cities to use a model ordinance to require mask wearing on a local level.

John Wilkerson with the Municipal League said the model will use law enforcement to educate and encourage the public on mask-wearing.The model is also geared towards supporting businesses, making law enforcement available to help with enforcing at businesses.

During a press conference, Gov. Hutchinson announced 547 new cases, which brings the known total to 22,622. Two more deaths were announced, bringing the total to 281.

There was a 13-person increase in hospitalizations in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 285.

There were 6,947 COVID-19 tests completed in the last 24 hours.

  • at least 150 in prisons

• 272 hospitalizations
• 69 ventilators
• 279 deaths

During a press conference, Gov. Hutchinson said if any Arkansan has a COVID-19 related health concern, they can request an absentee ballot for the Nov. 3 election.

Hutchinson made this announcement after Arkansas Secretary of State John Thurston said that current laws allow the ability to vote with an absentee ballot due to the pandemic.

Arkansas health officials announced 878 new cases, which brings the known total to 22,075. Two more deaths were announced, bringing the total to 279.

There was a 3-person decrease in hospitalizations in the last 24 hours, bringing the total down to 272.

During a press conference, Gov. Hutchinson announced 420 new cases, which brings the known total to 21,197. Seven more deaths were announced, bringing the total to 277.

There was a 15-person decrease in hospitalizations in the last 24 hours, bringing the total down to 275.

There were almost 8,000 COVID-19 tests completed in the last 24 hours. Arkansas saw a significant decrease in active cases, bringing the total to 5,757.

The governor announced that national training at Fort Chaffee, that would've brought 4,000 guardsmen to Arkansas, has been cancelled. The federal rules did not require testing for each guardsman and the governor found that concerning.

Dr. Smith said Arkansas's active cases are plateauing out. 

There were 4,939 COVID-19 tests completed in the last 24 hours. In June, Arkansas tested 167,168 people for the virus.
