Helena-West Helena Police investigate attempted home invasion

A couple in Helena -West Helena were held at gunpoint Saturday night after the wife answered the door for someone claiming to be a trick-or-treater.

HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. (KTHV) - A couple in Helena -West Helena were held at gunpoint Saturday night after the wife answered the door for someone claiming to be a trick-or-treater.

Police reports state that around 6:27 p.m. Saturday, October 31, the homeowner of a residence off the 200 block of 4th Street in Helena -West Helena called stating that four black males had knocked on her door saying trick or treat, and when she opened the door to hand out candy one of the males pointed a shotgun at her face. The four suspects were then able to force their way inside her home.

The Chief of Police with Helena -West Helena Police Department (H-WHPD), Virgil Green, said that the female victim's husband was setting in his recliner when the suspects pushed their way inside. The husband allegedly had a weapon close to him, and as the suspects attempted to take items from the home, he pulled out the weapon and fired one shot. The shot missed the suspects but went into the ceiling.

The suspects ran away from the residence, leaving behind a shotgun and a rifle.

Investigators are currently working on a description of the suspects. The victims were not injured during the attempted robbery.
