At least 16 tornadoes reported in northern Arkansas

Official information has reported that at least 16 tornadoes impacted residents across the northern part of the state over the weekend.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — After an active weekend of severe weather in the Natural State, officials confirmed that at least 16 tornadoes impacted residents across the northern part of the state.

The National Weather Service Little Rock is still conducting a damage survey in Rogers and has additional surveys planned for south Marion County and White County.

The strength of some of the tornadoes are estimated to be as strong as EF-3. The town of Decatur was impacted by EF-2 and EF-3 tornadoes. The EF-3 tornado was over 3,000 yards wide and traveled for almost eight miles.

At least 22 people have died due to the Memorial Day weekend storms across several states, including nine in Arkansas.

According to reports, this brings the total number of tornadoes Arkansas has experienced this year to at least 33.

The most recent series of tornadoes that impacted Arkansas over the weekend swept through counties like Benton, Marion, Fulton, Boone, and Rudolph as it caused noticeable damage in form of numerous uprooted trees and damaged buildings. 

Just in Benton County, there were reports of an EF1 tornado, multiple EF2 tornadoes, along with an EF3 tornado that caused damage in the area.
