BEEBE, Ark. — According to reports, a 15-year-old boy died in an accident on the train tracks near Railroad Street in Beebe.
The Beebe Police Department and Beebe School District Police Department responded to South Fir Street and Idaho Street around 9:30 a.m. and located the boy who had been hit by the train.
Medical professionals determined that the juvenile was dead at the scene and informed the family.
Union Pacific said in a statement that the train crew was not injured and that they're working with local authorities to understand what led to the incident, as South Fir Street and Idaho Street is not a crossing.
The Beebe School District released the following statement:
"It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of a freshman at Beebe High School. He was a cherished member of our Beebe School District family, and his loss deeply affects our entire community.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. We extend our heartfelt condolences and support to all who are grieving."
Counseling services will be available through the district for any students and parents who need support.
The Union Pacific Railroad Police are leading an investigation into this incident. More information will be released once it's available.
