LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Two local educators were recently named the 2024 Arkansas Rural Teachers of the Year by the state's Rural Education Association (AREA).

Andrea Murray, an eighth-grade English teacher at the Pocahontas Junior High School, and Bethany Brantley, who teaches at the Cossatot River School District, were presented with a crystal apple gift and a check for $1,000 from the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas as a reward for their contributions to education in Arkansas.

Each year, nominations for the award are vetted by the state’s 15 educational cooperatives, which then submit a finalist for each educational cooperative district to the AREA for consideration.
