LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The month of December has officially begun, and that means the holiday season is now upon us.

With the holiday season now in full swing, that means it's almost time for one of Little Rock's most anticipated events of the year— the lighting of the Arkansas State Capitol.

The 2024 Arkansas State Capitol Lighting Ceremony is set to take place at the capitol grounds on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 5:30 p.m.

This year will be the 86th anniversary of the capitol lighting ceremony, and Secretary of State John Thurston will be in attendance to continue the legacy and celebration that began several decades ago.

After the lighting ceremony concludes, there will be a wonderful holiday firework display and guests will also have a chance to view the holiday decorations inside the capitol building.

Santa Claus will also be at the celebration, and guests will have the opportunity to visit him inside of his workshop.

This ceremony also marks the beginning of extended hours at the Arkansas State Capitol. Guests are now able to visit Monday- Friday between 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
