LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The start of the 2024-2025 school year in Arkansas is right around the corner, and now is the time of year when students, parents, and even teachers are preparing ahead of the first day of school.
Many people across the state like to do their back-to-school shopping during the tax-free weekend so that they can save some money while still buying what they need to have a successful school year.
The State of Arkansas is one of 18 states that are offering a sales tax holiday in 2024.
Beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2024, Arkansans will be able to make their tax-free purchases on certain items including electronics, school supplies, school art supplies, school instructional materials, and clothes.
The tax-free weekend will run through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
Clothing items that cost less than $100 per item are exempt during the tax-free weekend, as well as clothing accessories that are less than $50 per item.
Most school supplies including backpacks, paper, crayons, binders, and rulers are also exempt.
The tax-free discount in Arkansas extends to certain electronic devices as well as select purchases that are made online during the weekend.
