Over 345 lbs of illegal marijuana seized during two traffic stops, state police say

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ark. — Arkansas State Police reportedly seized over 345 pounds of illegal marijuana during two separate traffic stops in Franklin County, leading to two arrests.

On Monday, July 29, state police stopped a 2020 black Chevrolet Silverado on I-40 eastbound near the 43-mile marker for a traffic violation.

A search of the vehicle revealed seven large trash bags in the truck bed containing 145 pounds of illegal marijuana.

Troopers arrested the driver, 34-year-old Steven McGee of Halstead, Kansas. He was transported to the Franklin County Detention Center, where he was booked on felony charges of possession with intent to deliver and drug paraphernalia.

On Thursday, July 25, troopers stopped a black 2014 Dodge pickup eastbound on I-40 near the 40-mile marker in Franklin County for a traffic violation.

After searching the vehicle, they discovered seven large trash bags containing 202 pounds of illegal marijuana in the bed of the pickup truck.

Troopers arrested the driver, 42-year-old Brent Pope of Strawberry Plains, Tennessee. He was charged with felony possession with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.
