8 Fort Smith police officers on paid leave after shooting

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – A total of eight Fort Smith police officers are on paid administrative leave following an officer-involved shooting Wednesday night.

Police say officers shot at 19-year-old Matthew Pittman after he rammed multiple cars including patrol cars and tried to run over an officer.

Police also confirmed Pittman had a revolver in his waistband. He was taken to a hospital and then booked into the Sebastian County Jail where he is still being held.

Three officers actually fired their weapons and five others were witnesses.
