Arkansas officials activate emergency operations in response to flooding

In response to flooding across the state, the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management has now activated its State Emergency Operations Center.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — In response to flash flooding that has happened across the state, the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management (ADEM) activated its State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) to level 1 on Tuesday.

Multiple counties in Arkansas have reported road closures, evacuations, and damages to infrastructure. 

Those counties impacted are listed below: 

  • Baxter
  • Cleburne
  • Conway
  • Faulkner
  • Lawrence
  • Marion
  • Searcy
  • Stone

According to the ADEM, a senior rehab facility in Yellville reportedly had to evacuate about 80 people due to flooding. There were also about 30 to 40 people in Flippin that were evacuated from their homes, and the American Red Cross has now opened a shelter there where residents are being housed.

At the Greenbrier Gardens apartment complex, there were about 30 residents who were evacuated due to the flooding.

The ADEM is offering multiple tips for people to stay safe during flooding:

  • Evacuate immediately when you are told to do so
  • Never drive around barricades
  • Contact your healthcare provider if you are sick/ contact 911 if there's a medical emergency
  • Listen to EAS, NOAA Weather Radio or local alert systems for emergency information
  • Do not walk, drive through or swim in flood waters
  • Stay off bridges over fast-moving water
  • Stay inside your car if it is trapped inside rapidly moving water/get on roof if water is rising inside car
  • Get to highest level if trapped inside building
