North Little Rock to open all roads in Burns Park after March tornado

The North Little Rock Parks and Recreation Department says all roads in Burns Park will be open on Feb. 23, almost 11 months after the March tornado.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — All roads in Burns Park will open on Feb. 23, the North Little Rock Parks and Recreation Department announced on Tuesday.

The city said it has "worked diligently" since the tornado on March 31 to repair the roads at Burns Park, which suffered significant damage during the severe weather event.

City officials and volunteers have worked for the past 11 months to restore the park, cleaning up downed trees and debris. The hard work allowed the city to open the youth baseball fields on April 24, 2023, the Arkansas Trail River in late May 2023 and a new fire station last November.

Burns Park served as a designated tornado debris drop-off location. City officials told us in November 2023 that they expected to pay around $4 million to fix the roads around the park after debris trucks tore them up.
