LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Firework shows can be a lot of fun for the little ones, but they can quickly turn dangerous.
That's also true for many summer activities, from barbeques to campfires.
Gretta Wilkinson with Arkansas Children's Hospital visited THV This Morning with some important fire safety tips to keep in mind.
Here are a few of her tips:
-Families should attend community fireworks displays run by professionals rather than using fireworks at home
-Consumer fireworks (like sparklers) can reach up to 1800 degrees Fahrenheit, which can lead to second and third degree burns
-For burns larger than the size of a quarter, call 911
-Ice can deepen the burn and cause the body temperature to drop. Don’t put ice on a burn. Instead, run cool water over the burn for one minute for children and five minutes for adults
-Sparklers account for 10 percent of fireworks-related injuries according to the AAP
-Sparklers reach up to 2,000 degrees – hot enough to melt some metals
