LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – After the deadly bus crash in Chattanooga, Tennessee, an Arkansas Legislator is pushing for his will that would require school buses in Arkansas to have seat belts.

The bill would affect all buses purchased after January 2018.

Democratic Representative Mark McElroy submitted the proposal for the 2017 general session, before Monday's tragic bus crash in Chattanooga.

His bill would take it out of the state's hands and let local districts vote on whether or not to increase taxes to add seatbelts to busses.

“It can happen [in Arkansas]. And the sad part is, it's just a matter of time before it does I'm afraid," said McElroy.
