ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — The City of Arkadelphia announced on Wednesday that the stretch between Walnut Street at 10th and Highway 67 will be closing for a year so that progress on the Arkadelphia Bypass Project can continue.

This road closure at Walnut Street at 10th and Highway 67 will begin on July 29, 2024, and it will impact people who live along Wade Street and along Walnut Street between 10th and Highway 67.

Officials have said that accommodations will be made so that residents who live in the areas can still have access to their homes while the road is closed.

“While the timeline is unfortunate, we must close this section of Walnut Street to allow our crews to install new water and sewer lines for the Bypass Project,” City Manager Gary Brinkley said. “After we move the lines, ARDOT will be coming in to remove the bridge and install new culverts to make way for the bypass expansion.”

Brinkley also added that while he dislikes the fact that the project will take a year, it's what is safest for both crews and residents.
