BAXTER COUNTY, Ark. — On April 3, deputies with the Baxter County Sheriff's Office arrested a man with a Grand Rapids, MI address while responding to a disturbance call on Dupont Lane in the Whiteville area.
According to reports, authorities were notified that a man had kicked in the door of a residence before leaving the scene in a black Ford F150 pickup truck with out-of-state license plates.
When deputies arrived at the residence, they spoke with the victim. She stated that a man named Carl B. Vannatter had come to her residence and an argument had ensued.
Vannatter then allegedly kicked open the front door while she was on the phone with authorities. She also stated that Vannatter was an absconder with multiple outstanding warrants.
Once deputies confirmed the allegations, other officers and agencies were alerted to be on the lookout for him.
Later that evening, an Arkansas State Police trooper reported that he was following a vehicle matching Vannatter's description with Montana license plates.
Vannatter stopped at a gas station at the intersection of U. S. Hwy 62/412 Bypass and State Hwy 178 East, where was arrested without incident.
During the arrest, a handgun was observed in the driver's seat along with a bag containing what was later confirmed to be approximately 12 grams of meth. Various articles of drug paraphernalia were also found.
Carl Benjamin Vannatter was transported to the Baxter County Detention Center and booked on the following charges:
- Residential burglary
- Possession of methamphetamine with purpose to deliver
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Possession of firearms by certain persons
- Simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms
- Criminal mischief in the second degree
- Possession of open alcohol container in vehicle
- Parole violation absconder - Arkansas Division of Community Corrections
- Probation violation absconder - United States Marshal Service
He has a bond of $25,000 on the new charges and is being held without bond for violating parole.
