Arkansas man wanted for 2022 murder arrested by Oregon police

An Arkansas man wanted for capital murder was arrested by police in Oregon on Saturday, according to authorities.

EUGENE, Ore. — An Arkansas man wanted for capital murder was arrested by police in Oregon on Saturday, authorities said.

The Eugene Police Department issued a press release on Monday where they announced that 23-year-old Rickey Lamont Howard Jr. was arrested for his involvement in the death of 55-year-old Calvin Kirklin on Jan. 8, 2022.

According to authorities, Howard had active warrants for capital murder, terroristic act, and aggravated robbery.

Police said that the arrest happened after authorities spotted a vehicle that they were on the lookout for in a parking lot. They located the car as they were responding to a call.

This vehicle was noted to be associated with Howard, who was initially found sleeping under blankets at the time.

Authorities said that they pinned the vehicle before using a loud speaker and an air horn to lure Howard out of the car, who they said was compliant.

According to the press release, Howard was then taken into custody without incident and will be extradited to Jefferson County.
