Small Arkansas community cleans up after microburst damages several homes

Hours after the total solar eclipse, severe weather slid into Arkansas, including a ferocious burst of wind that damaged parts of Scott.

SCOTT, Ark. — Several people in Scott are dealing with storm damage after a confirmed microburst swept through just after 8:30 p.m. on Monday.

Those 80 to 90 mph winds caused significant damage to the small community, with several homes and trees damaged by wind.

The community is coming together to help each other clean up the aftermath.

"I'm just glad that only property got damaged, not people," Bryan Taylor said. "That's one thing we can be blessed about."

Taylor spent Monday night and Tuesday checking on his neighbors after the microburst damaged his home and his great-grandmother's.

"My grandmother planted that tree when she was 30," Taylor said. "Now, she's going to be 90. She hates to see it go."

No injuries or deaths were reported, according to officials.

"I told Maggie, my fiancee, 'Baby, get to the bathroom. I'm grabbing the baby,'" Taylor said. She sat down in the tub. I put the baby in her lap and put a mattress over her because we have a small window in our bathroom, and I didn't want glass and stuff around my kid."

Taylor said it didn't last very long but made a mess outside.

"I have some debris slammed against the trailer, tree limbs," Taylor said. "I picked up my neighbor's trampoline, which slammed against the house a couple of times."

According to Taylor, many people of all ages are helping around the community.

"We got kids out here moving limbs and picking up the little stuff—trash—just trying to be a part of the community like their dads and their moms and help out," Taylor said. "[Our community' isn't very big down here. This is the most attention I know we've had in 25 years."

Even with all this, Taylor is in good spirits.

"The Good Lord has blessed everybody to make it through this safely and have us come together as a good community," Taylor said.
